INAC: New Congress on Natural Hazards in the Alpine Region

The Inter-Alpine Natural Hazards Conference (INAC) brings together experts and decision-makers to tackle alpine natural hazards and find solutions.

Connecting Industry and Science

As the risk of alpine natural hazards increases due to climate change, advancing forecasting, prevention, and management is crucial. To foster collaboration between research and practice, the Inter-Alpine Natural Hazards Conference (INAC) is being launched. This new congress will bring together decision-makers from industry and infrastructure with experts from science and research.

Organized by the Austrian Research Centre for Forests (BFW), the Tyrolean Wildbach and Avalanche Control (WLV), and Congress and Messe Innsbruck GmbH (CMI), the first INAC will take place from May 5-7, 2025, in Innsbruck, alongside the INTERALPIN, the leading fair for alpine technologies. Under the motto “Industry Meets Science,” the conference aims to connect key players in natural hazard management.

Interdisciplinary Exchange for Developing New Safety Concepts

The INAC will address natural hazards such as avalanches, landslides, flooding, and rockfalls. Jan-Thomas Fischer from BFW emphasizes the conference's goal: “INAC focuses on how to shape integrated alpine natural hazard management in the context of global climate change.” Gebhard Walter from WLV adds, “The aim of INAC is to network key players internationally to find new solutions for sustainable protection concepts and to integrate current industry solutions more effectively.”

The overlap with INTERALPIN provides unique synergies between practice and science. Christian Mayerhofer from CMI highlights the global reach of the event: “INTERALPIN will feature companies from over 60 countries, some already active in natural hazard solutions. Our visitors come from around 130 countries, maximizing our expertise and global impact.”
